About the Author

Charles Bukowski is one of America’s best-known contemporary writers of poetry and prose and, many would claim, its most influential and imitated poet. He was born in 1920 in Andernach, Germany, to an American soldier father and a German mother, and brought to the United States at the age of two. He was raised in Los Angeles and lived there for over fifty years. He died in San Pedro, California, on March 9, 1994, at the age of seventy-three, shortly after completing his last novel, Pulp.Abel Debritto, a former Fulbright scholar and current Marie Curie fellow, works in the digital humanities. He is the author of Charles Bukowski, King of the Underground, and the editor of the Bukowski collections On Writing, On Cats, and On Love.

Edgy, unapologetic, coloring outside the line poety. My first real exposure to Bukowski (although I did watch Barfly years ago) and it's been an interesting experience. I haven't finished but I'm enjoying it very much.

However, the Islamic Revolution of 1979 thrust Iran back onto the political centre stage and dramatically altered the relationship between Iran and the West. Modern Iran since 1921 places these developments in an historical context, and looks at how Iran sought to respond to the challenge of the West through reform and revolution, to reverse the decline of the previous century with a development programme that would catapult the country back into the top division. This new interpretation combines detailed historical narrative with comprehensive analysis and explanation of political, social and economic developments in Iran during the 20th century. It emphasises those factors which have helped shape attitudes and policies in an effort to explain the complex cultural polity that is modern Iran. Ali M. This book is a great introduction to portfolio management. One can learn how to create factor models and the level of math used is accessable for a typical economics/government graduate working in financial services. The inclusion of tax and leverage considerations as well as a section on backtesting make the book especially useful for real world applications.I would recommend that the book include more on simulation in the backtesting section along with a detailed section/apenddix on fitting distributions. This is an area where I and everyone I know required another individual to train because there were no other easily accessable resources available.

This book illustrates clearly the principles and structures for building a quantitative equity portfolio while explaining useful financial concepts which are closely related to the topic. The authors managed to describe most key factors without using complicated mathematical models. There are also many practical examples and analysis which help readers apply the theoretical knowledge into real-world scenarios. Complicated ideas are explained thoroughly by well-managed tables or charts and the text itself is totally readable and easy to follow. As a reader who has a finance background, this book helped me get the picture of quantitative equity portfolio and helped me learn critical concepts and strategies that are used by quant managers. This is a fantastic book for those who are interested in QEPM and/or who want to broaden their financial knowledge out side of pure-fundamental-analizing world.Strongly recommended.

Very good book but prefer the value and quality dynamic strategies from Alpha Vee Solutions

Goes through all the steps required to build a factor model in a clear and accessible manner. The kindle formatting messes up two things though. Firstly, the equations have been rendered as images which look a mess when a variable is mentioned inline with the text. Secondly all text including footnotes are presented in the same order on the page as they are in the print version. This results in footnotes randomly appearing in a confusing manner. When viewed on the the desktop the Kindle window can be resized to a view matching the print version which eliminates the problems, but on a Kindle device it can be a bit difficult to read.

I purchased this book to focus on two broad areas: portfolio construction and backtesting. I was not disappointed--both sections were excellently presented. Written in clear, precise prose (no theory obfuscation) and then illustrated with rigorous formulas and copious examples. I found the treatment of factors especially well done from identifying their suitablity to their use in screening and modeling. The book is well organized; individual chapters can be read on a stand alone basis or a group of chapters taken together for a more comprehensive view. It's a volume that's exceptionally well suited for individuals with a solid grasp of fundamental analysis and a strong command of basic statistics.

One of the geatest books for finance. Not a texbook but not a novel either, staright to the point, great labs that are coming with the book.

Yet another Chincarini hit. I strongly suggest this book for quants. Not so good if you're looking for something less math heavy.

There is a right balance of fun and detail. Though English is not a my first language, you can still manage to enjoy it. You will definitely understand the different aspects of financial crisis better after reading it. How different parties participated in this crisis.

I purchased this book for my fourth grader, who is a huge MJ fan and also a fan of the "Who Was" book series. But...Yikes! I'm definitely not going to allow him to read this. There is a chapter called "Trouble" where the book addresses the child abuse allegations against Michael Jackson in DETAIL. Too much detail for my 9-year-old. I would have to answer too many questions as a result. There is also a chapter entitled "Wacko Jacko". I just feel as if this book is not written for children who are MJ MUSIC fans- at least not MY child, but to each his own.

We bought these for our kids to enjoy reading biographies and soon my husband and I starting reading them. They are a quick 30 minute or less read for an adult, about an hour or so for kids, depending on the age of child. We are Avid biography readers so I know when things are missing out of some of the biographies, but for kids and for a quick learning and knowledge of someone you can not beat this or any or their biographies! We have searched for biographies like this and nothing comes even close. The price is perfect if you want to start a collection - like we have. We now buy these biography books for gifts and for family who absolutely love them!

I got this for my 6 year old who loves MJâ€™s music and I have to say Iâ€™m disappointed in the...honesty of it. As soon as I saw that thereâ€™s a section about the sexual abuse allegations, I was shocked. I understand that itâ€™s a huge part of his life, but I never would have imagined they would include that in a kidâ€™s book. Itâ€™s not necessary at all. I donâ€™t know if my son saw that or not, but now I have to figure out how to handle it if he does. And after reading the other negative reciews, Iâ€™m seeing thereâ€™s even more inappropriate stuff that I havenâ€™t even seen yet. Itâ€™s a bummer.

It is a good synopsis of Michael's life. I am a huge Michael fan and my son was eager to get this book and learn more about him as he loves his music. My son is also a huge fan of the "Who Was..." books so this seemed like a great addition to the ones he has already read. After reading it myself I decided to wait a few more years before I let my son read it. Parents should know that this book does discuss the molestation accusations that were made against him. If you are not ready to discuss this topic with your children, this is not the book for your kid/s (this is why I gave it 3 stars). Otherwise great book and nice illustrations.

It is a great book for any Michael Jackson fan. A fair warning to those with kids: the story of the lawsuits for child molestation as well as the abuse he suffered as a child are mentioned so be cautious with the age group who reads this.

Bought this for my 12 year old and she is really enjoying it. Asking me if I knew this or that about him. Well laid out and easy to ready and find out interesting facts about a famous person. I homeschool my kids and am using these beginner books to introduce them to the joy of reading biographies. It's a fairly easy level of reading. I'd say about a 4th grade reading level. Definitely not a challenge in the reading department for your average 6th grader.

All of the books in this series are fabulous! I am a 5th grade reading teacher and I have about 100 of the books in this series. Kids at this age don't typically like reading biographies. These are perfect! They have all the important information about the person, landmark, event. And, we always love looking at the adorable, sometimes funny cover photos!

My son hasnâ€™t read this book yet, but it is his stack of to reads.Form what I looked at, it seems like a fairly inforamitive book for the few pages it is. He has brought other books like this home from the school library.

I especially like how he listed names of personnel and followed them through the battle where they either portrayed valor or shows how they died. My close friend, Doc Cecala was wounded during an ambush while on a patrol with B 1/26; most of his platoon was killed and at least half of the second which came to reinforce them. Shot in the shoulder and legs, he managed to crawl back to the gates of the firebase and be rescued.The book also does justice to the hill fights surrounding the base, showing how they worked through their difficulties: ground attacks, incoming, lack of water, food and ammunition.Once finished, the reader is able to review the action taken by the American leadership and gage whether or not they did the right thing. Mr. Jones also documents the action within the white house and discussions between President Johnson, McNamara and Westmorland and how politics entered into their decisions.Highly recommended for those wanting to learn more about one of the monumental battles of the Vietnam War. A key factor which can't be underestimated is the courageous and skilled actions and operations of the U.S. Navy corpsmen, doctors and nurses which played such an important role in dealing with the many killed and wounded participants. There is always inter service rivalry but when the bullets start flying that is forgotten and they are all together as it should be.

This book plays with your emotions, but never takes your mind off the map, off the strategy, far from the psychology, it never takes you from the moment but expands on every moment, gives them, gravitas. It's a good book for war junkies and people who love the psychology of action alike. The psychology of the individual mind is an interesting thing in this book, as most people look at the military, at battles, as formations with structure, and order when it's far from that, its organized chaos with no edge, its a horizon thats upside down until its not. The format of the book lays things out well and never takes you far from the overarching theme of the book, you dont feel the pages going by and hope that you're not done. The Epilogue is almost a different read all by itself, it pulls you forward, it gives you some solace at times, it talks about healing, it talks about loss, after so much loss. Enjoy it!
